General Overview

Amba Ayurveda is a modern boutique hotel with a laid-back feel where you can choose to immerse in intensive Ayurvedic wellness or just relax and enjoy the beachside along with a few relaxing massages. The philosophy here is to provide a peaceful and caring environment where guests can feel at home and leave utterly relaxed and rejuvenated. The hotel offers luxurious accommodation with sea views; a comprehensive Ayurvedic centre managed by an experienced Ayurvedic doctor; nutritious meals and a peaceful seaside setting. A minimum of three nights stay is recommendedto benefit fully from this rejuvenating experience. Amba Ayurveda Resort offers a range of Ayurvedic wellness packages ranging from the more intensive to just relaxing massages and herbal baths that are aimed at destressing and rejuvenating. The rate is on a FB basis and includes Ayurveda treatments.

Accommodation

Guests have an option of several bedroom categories – Deluxe Rooms; Double Room with Ocean view; Superior Double with Ocean View; and Superior Double Ground Floor. All rooms open on to a private balcony with ocean or garden views. Bedrooms are well furnished with king-size canopied beds and lounge chairs. In-room facilities include a/c, overhead fans, wifi internet, satellite TV, mini-fridge, electronic safe, ensuite bathroom with h/w rain shower and Ayurveda bath products. The Deluxe Rooms have ensuite bathrooms with bath tub and h/w rain shower.

The lounge area opens out to the swimming pool and sea beyond.  The restaurant is located at a level above and serves traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, Ayurveda cuisine and western dishes. Meals are prepared with fresh fruit and village vegetables, meats and seafood purchased locally. If guests are undergoing specific treatments, the Ayurvedic physician will discuss your meal plan with the chef and ensure it is customized according to your treatment plan. The 12 metre salt water swimming pool is ideal for cooling off on a warm day. Take an early morning stroll along the secluded beaches or take in the spectacular sunsets at dusk. The turquoise seas fronting the hotel is safe for swimming during the season from December to April.  Other hotel facilities include an in-house Ayurvedic doctor, complimentary Ceylon teas, meditation area and pond; and Yoga classes.

The Amba Ayurveda Centre consists of a lounge, doctor’s consultation room and several treatment rooms. Upon arrival, all guests are seen by the resident Ayurvedic doctor who will thereafter, draw up a personalised rejuvenation programme to suit individual needs. There are three Ayurveda packages on offer:

Ayurveda Pure:  This 13 night package is for those wishing to experience the full benefits of Ayurvedic healing and includes a minimum of three doctor’s consultations; five treatments a day; all meals (FB) according to the doctor’s recommendations; complimentary daily yoga and/or meditation session.

Ayurveda Spirit:  This six night package is recommended for those who would like to enjoy some aspects of Ayurveda (massages and herbal baths) combined with excursions and beach holiday.  This package includes a minimum of two doctor’s consultations; two to three treatments per day; all meals (FB) with a choice of either Ayurveda or Western cuisine; two complimentary excursions; and three complimentary yoga/meditation sessions.

Ayurveda Skeptic:  For someone who is new to Ayurveda and wishes to try out a few relaxing massages, the Ayurveda Skeptic package is ideal and includes one doctor’s consultation; one to two treatments a day; all meals (FB) which can include Ayurveda or Western cuisine; and  one complimentary excursion.  A minimum stay of three nights is recommended.

Excursions

Take a boat ride along the tranquil Maadu River past quaint rural villages, en route, visit the local markets, temples, craft and antique shops. Visit Kosgoda’s Marine Turtle hatchery – a valuable conservation project that protects the endangered Marine Turtles of Sri Lanka. Experience Ambalangoda’s cultural heritage with a visit to the Ariyapala Mask Museum where intricate masks used in various southern traditional dance forms are on display. Masked dancing is also performed here regularly. We also recommend a visit to Lunuganga – a garden retreat that was created by Geoffrey Bawa. The Lunuganga gardens were a life long project cherished by Bawa and designed with numerous varieties of foliage, many pavilions, and statues. A 45 minute drive south along the coast takes you to the historic town of Galle. Explore Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort – a UNESCO protected World Heritage site. Walk through the maze of cobblestone paved streets lined with Dutch and British colonial era buildings which are still in use; sturdy ramparts looking out to sea; the lighthouse and a growing collection of museums, art galleries, shops, restaurants and cafes.
