Cultural Encounter Overnight Excursions – 3 days 2nights

First day-] early morning leave for Pinnawala and The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, established in 1975, commenced with seven orphans. Today some of these orphans enjoy the fortune of seeing their grandchildren born in the same location. The original objective of establishing the orphanage inclined more towards tourism, but is soon became a conservation and educational centre.

Then proceed to Sigiriya and Climb the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress*. Sigiriya Rock Fortress, which is a world heritage site, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. Second day–] Proceed to explore Polonnaruwa. .Polonnaruwa: The island’s medieval capital situated in the cultural triangle rose to fame after Anuradhapura’s decline. The largest of its many reservoirs, the Parakrama Samudra, is larger than the Colombo harbour. Places to be seen: Remains of the King’s council chamber, the Royal Citadel, the Kumara Pokuna, the Royal Pavilion, the Vatadage Relic House (which is lavished with moonstones, guard stones, and a sculptured railing), Kiri Vehera, and Gal vihara. where four splendid statues of the Buddha in ”Upright”, ”Sedentary” and ”Recumbent” postures carved out of rock could be seen, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath, the statue of king Parakramabahu, and the Parakrama Samudraya.
On Completion leave for Kandy en route visiting a spice garden in Matele. In the evening do a city tour of Kandy* including visits to Temple of tooth relic, Kandy town, an art and craft centre and Gem museum.

Third day–] Visit the Royal Botanical gardens at Peradeniya. 147 acres in extent; Started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Gampola and Kandy. There are more than 5,000 species of trees, plants and creepers. Some rare and endemic as well as flora from the tropical world are found in the gardens. Spice Garden and Orchid House are popular with tourists. There are 5 Palm Avenues beautifying the gardens, the earliest and tallest Palm Avenue (Royal Palm Avenue) was planted in 1905 and the Double Coconuts from the Seashells Island, with the largest seed of all plants in the world is one such avenue.
Return to the hotel to end this 03 day tour.
